Donating Blood

The entire procedure, from completing a short medical history to drawing the blood and resting afterward with refreshments, takes less than 10 mintus. Blood donation is safe and painless, and healthy people can donate every 12 weeks (3 months). Indu Blood Bank encourages donors to give every 12 weeks to help maintain a consistent blood supply and so that the community is prepared for any emergency.

Donor Requirements

Basic Eligibility Criteria

1) Age: 18-65
2) Weight and Height
- For donors who are 5 t. tall above 45 kg ( or gglbs ) can donate. For increase in every inch in height the minimum necessary weight increases by 1 kg.
- Donor of and above 55 kg of any height can safely donate blood.
3) Frequency of Donation : Once in three months.
4) Heamoglobin Level: greater than or equal to 12.5 gm/dl
5) Blood Pressure: - Systolic: 100-140 mm of Hg
- Diastotic : 50-90 m of Hg
6) Pulse: 50 - 100 /Minute
7) Temperature: Norml 98-98.6oF (Afebrile)

You are not eligible if you
1) Vaccination
- Those having received live vaccines e.g. BCG. Small Px, Yellow fever, rabies, et. Must not donate for atleast 3 weeks after vaccination.
- Those having received antisera such as ATS. Gas Gangerene sera or Diptheric Sera should not donate for atleast 4 weeks.

2) Drug therapies: Avoid donation from patients receiving
- Anti- Convulsants
- Anti- Coagulants
- Corticosteroids
- Hypothensives
- Analgesics/antipyretics
- Antihistamines

3) Medical Ailments
- (Severe) allergies - Permanently Unfit
- (Severe) Asthma - Permanetly Unfit
- Bronchiectasis - Permanently Unfit
- Bronchitis - Fit after recovery
- Cardiovascular disorders - Permanently Unfit
- Chickenpox - Fit after 3 weeks after recovery
- Coronary artery disease - Refer to medical specialist for opinion
- Diabetes - Fit if well controlled
- Diptheri - Fit 3 months after recovery
- Dysentry - Fit after recovery
- Eczema - Fit if not on drugs
- Embolism - Permanently Unfit
- Emphysema - Permanently Unfit
- Epilepsy - Permanently Unfit
- Gout - Fit during remissions
- Gonorrhoea - Fit 2 months after recovery
- Hepatitis B - Permanently Unfit
- Hyperthyice - Permanently Unfit
- Malaria - Permanently Unfit
- Measels - Fit after recovery
- Mumps - Fit after recovery
- Menstruation -Fit 3 months after recovery
- Pregnroidism - Fit 6 months after recovery
- Hypothyroidism - FIt3 months after recovery
- Polycytgemia vera - Permanently Unfit
- Psoriasis - FIt if not on drugs
- Syphillis - Fit if fully & properly treated
- Tetanus - Fit 6 months after recovery
- Tuberculosis - Fit 2 years after recovery
- Typhoid - Fit 6 months after recovery

4) Surgery
- Tooth extraction - Fit after 7 days
- Appendicectomy - Fit after 6 weeks
- Tooth extraction - FIt after 7 days
- ENT operation - FIt after 6 weeks
- Hemiorrhaohy - Fit after 3 months
- Major Operations - Fit after 6 months
